This task can be a difficult task especially with lot of people looking at your work once the yearbook gets published and several of those people could be quite critical of the work you have done but it can also be a lot of fun if you know from the start that no matter how great a job you do, not everybody will like the theme you pick or the end result. So to get started on this task the first thing I would recommend is take a look at as many yearbooks that you can get your hands on. Borrow your friend’s yearbooks, your parent’s yearbooks. Check out these yearbooks and try to find out what elements are common again the yearbooks which are nice and also what the elements that are distasteful are. I wouldn’t recommend that you copy the elements from other yearbooks because someone that is not original is just boring. But this exercise will help you get your creativity juices flowing. You can get lot of ideas from looking at other yearbooks. Something you can consider for your yearbook theme is a defining event in the current school year. Every school year has something that stands out as the event of the year. Ask your classmates / teachers what the event of the year was at your school. You can make your yearbook theme centered on this event. Also creating the yearbook on this event will make everyone remember this event for several years to come. How you portray this event can also require a lot of creativity? Is this event a happy event or a sad event? Even if it is sad event, it can be made the theme of your yearbook with some imagination. One important point to bear in mind while using an event or happening to be the yearbook theme is that the event should be well known among all the students. If the event is something that is known only to a select few then the yearbook will not hold much value to the other students, who may even feel left out. You can also use incorporate your school’s colors or mascot into the yearbook theme. ![]() It is good to have these be part of the theme but these shouldn’t restrict your creativity. Incorporate these in such a manner that they strengthen the theme and not making them look out of place. If finally you can’t in any manner make the school mascot part of the theme, you can even leave it out but don’t sacrifice your theme to assimilate it in. Finally a good yearbook is one which is all inclusive, it captures each student’s life and every student is able to relate to it. This way every student will be able to treasure the yearbook for several years to come.
